Jens Bang’s House

Jens Bang’s House

For 400 years, Jens Bang’s Stone House has stood proudly in the heart of Aalborg, a symbol of the city’s wealth and central importance during the Renaissance. Remarkably well preserved, the beautiful building is today an exceptionally fine example of a 17th-century burgher’s house – significant not only locally in North Jutland, but also nationally.

Originally built as a merchant’s residence, the house later became home to Svane Pharmacy, which operated here from around 1670 until 2013. Today, the building houses a restaurant, private residences, a medical practice, and an exhibition with a museum shop. In the attic, visitors can explore The Apothecary Collection, a small museum showcasing 350 years of pharmacy history.

Please contact the museum for tours with an English speaking guide.

Exhibition with museum shop

In the nearly 350-year-old Svane Pharmacy, the original interior can still be experienced. In the 1890s, pharmacist Cristoffer Strøyberg renovated the entire pharmacy and placed the pharmacy’s emblem, the swan, in the windows of the entrance doors. The exhibition tells the story of the exquisite interior, the beautifully painted ceiling with medicinal plants, and the unique water tap shaped like a swan. You can also visit a small museum shop offering products that reflect the long history of the building. Free admission.
Jens Bang’s Stone House is one of the best-preserved Renaissance buildings in Denmark. It was built in 1623–24 and has experienced a varied and eventful history over the years.
