In 2014, a till then unknown Viking fortress was discovered. It was named Borgring. Borgring is the least excavated and thus the most original of the five ring fortresses. Borgring is probably never finished and can therefore be assumed to mark the end of Harald Bluetooth’s vision of geometric monuments as symbols of a new era in his newly-Christianised kingdom.
Borgring is Harald Bluetooth’s distinctive symbol of royal presence in the area around the present day Køge and is his vision of a Christian kingdom when the old royal seat in Lejre had played out its role and disappeared.
In 2025, a new experience centre will be opened on site. Here, visitors can look forward to learning more about Harald Bluetooth, the gods of the Vikings, the landscape and much more.
