A new permanent exhibition at the Viking Museum Fyrkat is in the works, and now the work is becoming more concrete.
It will be located in one of the wings at Fyrkat Mill Farm, situated right next to the Viking fort Fyrkat, which is annually visited by more than 30,000 guests from both domestic and international backgrounds. For many years, these visitors have had to make the journey into the town of Hobro to see some of the many artifacts that were excavated in the 1950s and 1960s in the fort’s vicinity. With the new exhibition, these artifacts and storytelling will be brought much closer to the actual discovery site, providing the audience with a more comprehensive and enriched museum experience.
The new exhibition at Fyrkat Mill Farm will serve two main purposes: it will introduce visitors to the story of Fyrkat and the other Danish Viking forts from the time of King Harald Bluetooth, and it will delve into the unique narrative of the Volva from Fyrkat. She was a sorceress found in one of the graves excavated at the Viking fort.
The exhibition is set to open in late 2024 and will cater to both children and adults, as well as Danish and international visitors. Through film, artifacts, and digital means of presentation, visitors will have a vibrant, holistic experience that allows for interaction, in-depth exploration, and the opportunity to gain a wealth of fascinating knowledge.
